Basing the film on popular writer Margaret Atwood’s influential book “Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth,” director Baichwal (MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES) takes synergistic leaps through time and space to examine the human history of crime and punishment and guilt and expiation.
